T.J. Sullivan being duly sworn says he is a citizen of Laurens County and resides at this place. Richardson was in his imployment [sic] working in his well, having imployed [sic] him at Greenville about ten days ago. This morning the 28th of June 1890, I and John Pool (col) let Richardson down in the well and carried part of his tools and bucket with him to send out the water that had run in. When he reach the bottom he heard put his tools out. Richardson had not been in the well more than three minutes until he said tighten the roap [sic], he tightened the roap [sic] and too heard a strangling noise and then looked over in the well and saw Richardson laying back in the tub... as if he had a spam...
