R? Price sworn. I first noticed the offensive smell from the well, last night, it is two lots from where I live. I heard yesterday that a child had been found in the well. I heard a daughter of Billy Deas tell my wife that her sister Alice found a child dead in the well. Henry House told me that Mrs. Deas made her throw some matting and grass over it. I gave notice to the magistrate that such was the facts, a daughter of Wm. Deas named Luly, I had reason to believe, was in a family way. I never heard of her confinement, about three or four weeks ago I heard of her being sick. I did not see her until after she came out. She looked smaller after she came out than she did before she was sick. I found matting and grass over the child in the well. I also found a piece of cloth wrapped around it. The cloth was bloody.

Henry House sworn. Tuesday evening last, I was sitting in the door eating my dinner Mrs. Deas daughter Alice came out to tget a piece of brick to throw at me, playing. She went to the well, and looked in the well, and called me and said there is a baby in the well. I looked down and saw it. I knew it was a child but thought it was an alabaster doll baby. She then called her mother, when her mother told me to rake up some trash and throw on it. I pulled up some grass that laid there and threw on it. Mrs. Deas then went into the next yard and brought a piece of matting and threw on it. I told her she had better let me go down to the shop and tell Uncle William and let him try to get it out. She said no that I need not bother him anything about it, that he did not want to know anything about it. Then I went down to the shop where Billy Deas was. One of his daughter's came in and told him about it, he asked me if I saw it. I told him yes. Henry his mark House.

Louisa Deas sworn. I first discovered on Tuesday last that the child found in the well was there. The children found it and called and told Henry House. I came out and saw it myself. I told Alice that stays with Mary Ballard, that there was a child in the well. I have no idea whose child it was. I can say under oath that if my daughter Luly was in a family way, I did not know it. I know of no case in the neighborhood of any case of the kind. Louisa her mark Deas.

Sucky Price Sworn. I am not intimate with Wm. Deas family. I live next door from them. I am under the full impression that Luly, Wm. Deas daughter, was in a family way a short time ago. I never heard of her being confined. Sucky her mark Price

Maria Williams sworn. I heard yesterday about 10 o?clock that ther was a child in the well here. When they were examining the Owen case last March in the court house Luly Deas was setting side of me. I am a midwife and have followed the profession for 28 years. She was certainly in a family way then. I have never heard of her being delivered. I am told that she is not in a family way at this time. I think the child had come ot its full time. I am satisfied it is a colored child. I am under the firm belief that some other person, and not the mother put the child in the well. She would not be able to have left her bed at that time. Maria her mark Williams.

Sally Chesnut sworn. I am acquainted with Mr. Wm. Deas family. I am intimate with them. I heard people say one of them, Luly was in a family way. She looked larger than common, but whether she was so or not I can't say. Sally her mark Chesnut.

Alfred Sheorn sworn. I did believe that one of Wm. Deas daughters was in a family way, never never heard of her being delivered of a child. Alfred his mark Sheorn.
