The above persons having been duly sworn as a Jury of Inquest on the body of Christopher Campbell, the body was examined in the presence of the Court by Doctors DeLeon and Young. Drury Campbell was called as a witness and being duly sworn deposed

That on Tuesday two weeks ago he, Christopher Campbell, the deceased, stated to this deponent that a negro had struck him on the head with a brick, and that a wound was on his head. This deponent saw his ear was then bleeding. The deponent also states that the deceased stated that since the blow above mentioned he had received some other abuse and that when [??] came to the house of this deponent he was very ruddy and stated that he had been thrown in a ditch.

Mary Jackson sworn states that on Tuesday the 14 Inst. the dec'd came to her and said that he was very sick and had a pain in his head. Did not see any bruise on his head, thinks that he had a fit [??] and was dying. He died some time between four and five o'clock Wednesday evening.

Mr. E. Brunson[?] sworn states that on last Saturday week the dec'd came to this deponent's house & told him that he had been struck on the head with a brick. This deponent also states that his ear was then bleeding.

Mr. D. J. Campbell again called, and stated that he never knew the deceased to have a fit, nor that he even knew him to be intoxicated.

Dr. DeLeon and James Young was then sworn. Dr. DeLeon stated that he was of the opinion that the deceased did not come to his death from the immediate wound inflicted on his head but that it was produced by disease in the brain [and] other causes. Dr. Young concurs with Dr. DeLeon.
